The Review:

Last month I was lucky enough to be able to take part in the LLR Book Tour. If you get the chance go and check out Love Reading Romance for more heart-warming reads.

Today, on release day, I get to share with you my first read of Christmas and second in the Cedarwood Lodge series by Rebecca Raisin.

We pick up with Clio a few weeks after the epic anniversary party. Things are still not resolved between her and Kai, the Aussie builder. Amory’s boyfriend Cruz has hightailed it to Evergreen from New York.

Clio and co are focusing all their energy on preparing the lodge for their first Wedding Expo. This means that all of Cedarwood needs to be up to code. The venue needs to be sparkling, and as it’s Christmas Clio sets about creating a twinkling wonderland. But will it be enough? Can the doubts niggling in her mind, not helped by her mom’s indifference to her whole venture, be put to rest?

Again Rebecca pulls you into Clio’s whirlwind world. Within minutes my heart was in my mouth praying that everything was going to make it right. As the local authorities started to make them wonder if thing would work out.

A few obstacles are thrown her way, can she navigate them and come out the other side unscathed? And will she find out what the secret her mom is hiding?

Grab a festive mug filled with your seasonal drink of choice, a hot water bottle and a blanket. Snuggle down and enjoy the Christmas spirit.

The Review:

In October I took part in a book tour for Celebrations and Confetti. The first in Rebecca Raisin’s latest novella trilogy, and this month I will be sharing part two with you too.

Clio grew up in Evergreen, a small town in New Hampshire. Cedarwood Lodge had been her playground. Closed for as long has she could remember, the grounds were overgrown but were perfect for her to run free. At 10 years of age Clio was she was certain that if the chance ever came up she would buy the lodge.

Fastforward twenty years, and Clio is stood in front of Cedarwood Lodge. After a successful wedding planner career in New York she has made her dream come true… and bought the lodge. Granted her return to Evergreen is under a bit of a cloud, however she is determined to make it work. School friend Micah is on board to help with the immediate renovations.

Can Clio regain her magic touch and breath new life into the Lodge in time to host a wedding anniversary party? Or will events from New York spill over and threaten her new life? Only time will tell.

Rebecca has created a coming-of-age tale mixed with a redemption story. I just wanted to reach into the page and give Clio a big hug, and a bit of a slap.

Like Jane Austen’s Emma Clio has a touch of the matchmaker about her, unlike Emma she isn’t as spoilt. If anything she is misunderstood and is rocked by the lack of support her mother seems to be giving her. Instead of being overjoyed that her daughter has come back home, her Mom is if anything standoffish and put out that her daughter decided to buy the Lodge. Not that Clio knows why.

I’m not ashamed to say how much I love novellas. They fit into working life really well. The stories are short and succinct but have lots to give in a lunch break, or while you are commuting. I’m already excited to read Clio’s next chapter.

The Blurb:

An irresistible, feel-good romance, perfect for fans of Rosie Blake, Sophie Kinsella and Lindsey Kelk.

First comes love. Then comes family…

After a lifetime of kissing frogs, Roxie Pratt has given up on finding her own fairytale romance. That is, until she meets her very own Prince Charming, Mark Wright, and he sweeps Roxie off her feet!

So when Mark finally gets down on one knee and pops the question, there’s only one thing left to do: meet the family! And when everything has been picture-perfect so far, what could possibly go wrong…?

The Review:

Online lifestyle journalist Roxie has met her match in life. The Joker to her Harley Quinn, and is overjoyed when after a year of dating children’s charity PR guru Mark asks her to be his wife.

And while she lives life one relationship top ten to another she soon realises that the time has come for her to meet his parents.

Is the urban legend of the mother in law from hell actually true? As Matt takes Roxie up to Yorkshire to meet his parents for the first time it looks like she is about to find out! But if that’s not enough to handle for one weekend Roxie’s editor is looking for a juicy serial about the journey from proposal to taking him up the aisle!

Portia has created a character that felt like my best friend. Roxie’s voice in my head is so strong. I felt a connection with her almost immediately. The pensive way she holds herself as she is ripped away from where she feels safe and in control and being sprung upon her inlaws to be in the depths of Yorkshire.

I’m also a sucker for a story based around Christmas. The high anxiety and emotions that roll around family gatherings are perfect for floating this fish-out-of-water tale.

One of my favourite scenes in the book is at the end of chapter 6. Mainly this weekend I drove from Yorkshire to Wales and back again stopping at a service station or two. One in particular had a flash mob! This just made me titter.

I’m not going to tell you if Roxie will be accepted into the Wright family’s open arms, because if I do you won’t get to join her on a rollercoaster of emotions – in a book that is over far too fast.

This is a book worthy of being added to your Christmas list.

About the Author:
Portia MacIntosh has been ‘making stuff up’ for as long as she can remember – or so she says. Whether it was blaming her siblings for that broken vase when she was growing up, blagging her way backstage during her rock chick phase or, most recently, whatever justification she can fabricate to explain away those lunchtime cocktails, Portia just loves telling tales. After years working as a music journalist, Portia decided it was time to use her powers for good and started writing novels. Taking inspiration from her experiences on tour with bands, the real struggle of dating in your twenties and just trying to survive as an adult human female generally, Portia writes about what it’s really like for women who don’t find this life stuff as easy as it seems.

Summary

When TV star Wendy Hunter is about to have her most closely guarded secret viciously exposed by the paparazzi, she desperately tosses out a juicy bone to distract them: she announces her engagement to southern high school football coach Colin Scott. One problem. She’s not really engaged to him. In fact, she barely knows him. Um … barely. But will one unforgettable night last year be enough to get him to go along with her charade?

Wendy goes to Louisiana to see him and discovers that Colin is not sothrilled to be suddenly “engaged” to her. He’s got some secrets of his own that his famous “fiancée” is putting in serious jeopardy. Still, he agrees to her fake engagement… as long as she agrees to play by his rules: Wendy has to stay in town for three weeks to play the part of Colin’s one true love, all without wrecking his life.

Let the games begin. But when their time together is up, will either of them be able to– or want to – go back to the way things were?

**This novel reads as a stand alone story within the In Love in the Limelight universe, where the stars and paths of different characters might cross, and where the paparazzi is always ready to sink in its glittery talons.

Cocktails in Camelot

The Blurb:  Erin Taylor is a hard-working journalist with a serious TV addiction and lack of a social life. She’s focused on her career and determined to leave her tiny cubicle behind for a fabulous corner office! But when a new co-worker, a friendship drama, and a hot workplace crush collide, Erin finds it harder and harder to focus. Especially when that crush on the oh-so-yummy Aiden Thomas starts to materialize into what feels like a magical relationship. Erin’s life seems to finally be heading in the right direction…until suddenly friends aren’t such great friends after all, her magical relationship hits a bumpy road, and her career could be derailed by it all. Erin learns a lesson the hard way: Sometimes people aren’t who they seem to be. With her happiness on the line, can Erin rise above her disappointments and create the life she’s always dreamed of or will she be stuck being Friends ForNever?

The Review: Oh boy, where to start? I loved this book. From the very beginning it felt like I knew Erin Taylor. From her work friendships, how she felt she was being treated in the office right through to her dreams of an office romance.

It probably helps that as the character is a journalist, I have for the most part of my professional career worked in newsrooms, magazines and at a news agency, I’m surrounded by ambitious writers.

The tension, created for Erin by her own mother, just as her personal life is starting to pick up and coast in the right direction feels so real. Poor Wilbur. No man needs to be caught in a battle of wills between a mother and daughter.

But as Erin’s love life blossoms, with Aiden from finance, and her office-based bestie Bre who is more interested in talking about dating and what she did last night.

Soon it looks like her career is about to take off too. But is before Aly joins the magazine, straight out of university. New, eager and over friendly can Erin trust the girl vying to be her new best friend? When the opportunity to be seconded to a magazine in Paris arises it turns into every writer for themselves as everyone bids to be chosen.

Can Erin win a place on the trip, or will her work mates show new sides to their personality and the grit that lead them to being journalists in the first place?

I fully recommend this as a light, holiday-friendly read.

The Blurb:

For the perfect summer romance…

It’s finally time for Natalie Dryden to decide what she really wants! After ditching her sparkling engagement ring, and her ghastly fiancé, she jets off for the sun-kissed shores of Southern France – the only place that has ever truly felt like home. For the first time ever, Natalie is determined to forget all about men and follow her dreams!

…head to the French coast!

Only, avoiding the male population isn’t quite so easy, especially when she meets smooth-talking Philippe and gorgeous fisherman, Remy! But then Natalie, quite literally, bumps into brooding millionaire Mark whilst swimming in the glittering azure-blue bay – and her life is turned upside-down.

Love might be off the cards for Natalie, yet suddenly she finds herself in her dream job and working with her dream man! But is it all too good to be true…?

The Review: As the world is turning crazy again it has been a pleasure to get lost inside the covers of this book.

Feeling trapped, alone in a house full of people. Natalie is side by side with her fiance at an event in the south of  France and the penny finally drops. David only wants the idea of her, not the actuality that is an exceedingly bright newly qualified Medieval historian with a passion for history.

Escaping from the situation, leaving the engagement ring behind, she runs to her grandmother Collette’s house.

However, once drawing a line under romantic entanglements the old adage of there are plenty of fish in the sea. While helping out at her friend’s bar Natalie meets the eye-catching Philippe and fisherman Remy, her eye is also turned by Mark – the owner of the château next door.

But is the neighbour with the gorgeous dog everything he seems at first?

Even though this is the first of TA William’s books I have read it is the fifth in his series of What Happens… novels. A great summer read, with all the escapism I needed at this moment in time. I quickly felt a rapport with Natalie, and as she grows though the book I was urging her to follow her heart and put the past behind her.

Keep your eyes open on the blog. TA Williams is going to be writing a guest post and there will be an author Q&A too.
